MINE Flesh

A series of digitally-manipulated photographs of my own body, in close-up, layered and exaggerated, with MINE printed on an old-fashioned Dymo tape superimposed on each image. The images are in and out of focus, slightly confused and not easily identifiable as specific parts of the body.

These are a response to trauma and the resultant depression and part of a reclaiming of my own body. The text on the Dymo tape is produced by sudden, extreme pressure on the plastic tape, forcing the mark to become permanent. I like the analogy of the physical and psychological pressures in our lives creating more or less permanent “marks” on our bodies and psyches.
